The Footbook of Generative Confluence
In this Footbook, we introduce "Generative Confluence," which describes the creative pattern where distinct theoretical approaches, such as the Ecological Practice Approach, the Life-as-Project Approach, and Creative Life Theory, intersect and generate a new central theoretical enterprise while maintaining their original developmental paths.
This idea emerged from Oliver Ding's "Theorizing Creative Life" project, a reflection on a multi-year creative journey involving various theoretical explorations and concepts.
Oliver Ding distinguishes Generative Confluence from simple merging, positioning it as an advanced stage following "Creative Dialogue," a method used to explore the boundary zones between theories. Three case studies are presented to illustrate how this pattern occurs in practice, often facilitated by a meta-framework that curates related concepts into a new, meaningful whole, such as the development of Creative Life Theory v3.0.
Ultimately, the Generative Confluence model serves as a heuristic tool for understanding how separate intellectual threads can be woven together to produce new knowledge systems.
