Anticipatory Cultural Sociology (Emerging Studies)
The “Anticipatory Cultural Sociology” theme emerged in late 2025, as Oliver Ding was closing a several-year journey of Knowledge Engagement with the release of Meta-frameworks: Creative Heuristics for Individual and Social Development.
A major by-product of this project is the History{Life[Self(Body)]} (HLS) Framework (v3.0), which conceptualizes the social world as a nested Anticipatory Activity System (AAS).
The theme refers to cultural development as a continuous anticipatory activity of creating and curating concept systems, and transforming them into thematic enterprises under specific social and structural conditions.
An early inspiration can be traced back to April 2023, when Ding engaged with Ping-keung Lui’s discussion on the conditionality of social structures and explored the potential of anticipatory sociology.
This thematic brief collects several articles that together form a new landscape of Anticipatory Cultural Sociology.
